Improving Learning Skills using NLP

A little while back while travelling overseas, I had the opportunity to assist a young boy with his spelling skills.

What often happens is that children and adults alike, may find it difficult to remember how to spell words correctly, no matter how much time they spend on learning the words. Flashcards etc. may prove to be a short-term solution. The child may spend many hours learning their spelling homework and the result is low marks on their test the next day.

This can cause unnecessary stress, low self-esteem and maybe even bullying from peers. These children then see spelling tests as a mountain before them and may even make excuses to stay away from school. I recently experienced a case like this.

Now what typically happens in children who struggle to retain the knowledge they have read is that they do not use their visual acuity when learning. In many cases they go into the kinaesthetic. This is not the way to learn and easily retain information.

So, back to the child overseas. This boy is 7 years old and English is not his first language. I did a quick assessment and found that he was accessing the spelling words in the area of “feeling” and not “seeing”. Imagine having to learn the word “hippopotamus” in your second language at the age of 7?

I applied the Learning Strategy in NLP and to his parents’ amazement, I had him spelling hippopotamus forwards and backwards in less than 5 minutes. When I asked him to spell the word again the next day, he could easily recall the word.

The absolute delight on this child’s face was so rewarding.

Holistic Life Coaching

So here is the reason why I have chosen to call myself a Holistic Life Coach.

Over a period of about 20 years I have had the opportunity to study and practice a variety of healing modalities as well as having been exposed to and have taken part in a variety of cultural and ancient spiritual and energy practices. This has taken me to a few countries where I have met, observed and learned a great deal from learned beings.

One thing I have learned over the years is that when you decide to work consciously on your spiritual growth and the evolution of your soul, the world becomes a very lonely place. I guess I’m lucky in that I enjoy my own company and appreciate my “alone time”. Even as a child, I tended to spend a lot of time on my own. As a “sensitive” or “intuitive empath”, I don’t do really well in large rowdy crowds. Don’t get me wrong, I loved spending time with likeminded people. I have a wicked sense of humour and enjoy a good laugh.

What kept happening to me over the years in my healing practice, is that every now and then, I would have my Higher Guidance step in with new guidance and as result I blended the many healing modalities into what I call Holistic Cellular Memory Release. (I will break this down in a future blog).

My approach to healing is a holistic one. I address the mind, body and soul. This means that I may include spiritual counselling in a healing/coaching session.
